Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) is a process that involves the capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted from industrial processes, power plants, and other sources, and the storage of this CO2 in geological formations or other structures where it will not contribute to global warming. CCS has become an important topic of discussion in today’s world due to its potential to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change.

The growth in the global emission of CO₂ has led to several industries adopting CCS, as an alternate to reducing carbon emission in the atmosphere thereby mitigating the effects of climate change.

The ability to continue utilising fossil fuels while minimising the quantity of CO2 released into the atmosphere is one of the key benefits of CCS. For the foreseeable future, fossil fuels will remain the main source of energy for the majority of the world’s population. By adding the CCS to the existing fossil fuel infrastructure, the industries prevent the CO₂ residue from getting released into the atmosphere to contribute to global warming and the greenhouse effect.
