Ashenafi is a dynamic energy professional with extensive expertise in business development, feasibility studies, and project implementation across Eastern Africa.
Most recently, he has served as Business Developer for Eastern Africa at Tractebel ENGIE (2020–2025) , where he played a key role in expanding the company’s footprint in the region. His focus areas included market intelligence, strategic prospecting, proposal development, and client engagement across the energy, water, and infrastructure sectors.
Prior to this, Ashenafi worked with ENGIE Africa (2018–2020) as a Business Developer in Ethiopia, driving B2B and B2C energy services, mini-grid and solar home system initiatives, and strategic proposals including corporate PPAs and battery storage solutions.
His technical background is further highlighted by his work on feasibility studies and contract administration for major national projects, including:
- Mini-grid development in off-grid villages (UEAP, 2016)
- Solar PV rooftop feasibility for Addis Ababa condominiums (EEU, 2016–2017)
- Power supply for Addis Ababa Light Railway (EEP, 2015)
- Electrification of rural villages in Afar region (EEU, 2014)
Beyond his professional achievements, Ashenafi has demonstrated his commitment to community development by voluntarily contributing to the electrification of three high schools in Ethiopia’s Gamo Zone in 2022 and 2025.
